How PlateClear works

Brokerage loop for buyers and sellers. Operated by Bond's Property Management Limited. Buyer deposits are taken live via Stripe. Full transfer completes after document checks and DVLA processing.

Buying

  1. Search — Look for a mark via our site (stub today). Inventory will mix DVLA public availability and private brokered listings.
  2. Check fitment — Confirm the mark can legally go on your vehicle (age restrictions for dated styles). See GOV.UK.
  3. Reserve / pay — Pay a deposit via Stripe to reserve. Balance and DVLA transfer follow once checks pass.
  4. DVLA transfer — We run a transfer checklist (take-off / assign / V317 as needed). Official pages: take off, assign.
  5. Aftercare — Update insurer and charging / parking accounts (below).

Selling

  1. Tell us your net — You set what you want to receive.
  2. We add margin — Buyer-facing price = your net + our brokerage margin (model to be locked — see spend policy).
  3. List — We publish without certificate scans.
  4. Transfer & payout — After a successful DVLA transfer and cleared funds, seller net is released subject to Antony’s payout approval.

Transfer essentials

  • Never accept photo-only V750/V778 as sole proof.
  • Never publish certificate scans.
  • Take-off onto retention is typically £80 — GOV.UK take off.
  • Assign from a held V750/V778 is typically free once entitlement is held — GOV.UK assign.
  • Renew entitlements on time or the number can be lost — GOV.UK renew.

Aftercare checklist

When your new registration is assigned, update these (as applicable):

  • Motor insurer

  • Dart Charge
  • Parking apps, permits, and employer parking schemes
  • Breakdown cover, lease, or finance companies that hold the reg on file
